This is really a tender story of love during wartime, with just a dash of slave fiction to spice it up a little. Kajha starts out as a captive that Ara takes as a slave, but Ara is not very masterly and really just wants to let the other man take care of him. And Kajha is perfectly happy to do that. The clashes between them are light and quickly resolved, and a lot of the book is the two of them traveling together and falling for each other - these bits are delightful. I read Stolen Away before this and the writing in Spoils of War is a huge improvement over Stolen Away. Spoils is much more polished.
